You can place any grass/turf in the puppy potty, however our four (4) default sizes are designed to fit the turf most easily and readily bought, which is from Bunnings. They sell it starting at $7 a piece and its excellent quality.

Depending on which state you are in will depend on which size potty you should consider, to be the most precise fit for your turf (i.e. VIC & SA Bunnings sell different size turf to NSW, ACT, QLD & WA).

Alternatively, you can simply trim your turf to fit whichever potty size you prefer.

Best case scenario for green thumbs it grows indefinitely like a normal lawn. We have many customers who have reported their turf has lasted for up to six (6) months, or on average and most commonly around three (3) months. Worst case scenario (such as indoors) the grass on average lasts 2-4 weeks.

Please note that these estimates are averages based off a large amount of customer feedback, and from our own experience. Life of grass can vary (more or less) dependent on many factors and variables, such as how you set the potty up, how often you do or don’t water the grass, where it’s placed (sunlight, rain, indoors, outdoors etc.), how big your dog is and how often they use it, whether you add soil, and how you take care of it in general.

Turf is a live plant and without soil it will eventually die. With this in mind, Bunnings stores do not offer online purchasing, rather only bulk orders are available online.

Individual pieces are sold in-store in their nurseries and to keep it fresh, they have it delivered once or twice a week. We recommend calling the store beforehand to check stock levels or to time when the next delivery is.

The most important factors to consider when purchasing your Real Grass Puppy Potty are:

• How much space is available for your potty.
• How big or small your dog is.
• How many dogs will be using the potty.
• How often your dogs will use the potty (verses doing their business during walks).

You should also consider whether you are happy to trim the turf to fit smaller potties, or whether you’d prefer a more precise / easier fit.

We use high quality timber that is 100% solid, structural pine, certified to Australian construction standards.

We recommend treating it much like a normal lawn or any other plant, which will prolong the life of the grass. This means simply laying something on the base of the potty such as some plastic potty liner (cut some holes in it so it can drain still), and a little bit of potty mix (soil).

Then lay the grass on top. This will allow you to water it with effective draining, flushing the dog’s business away and keeping the grass alive longer!

Your potty will also come with some little rubber feet or wheels to sit on, which further enhances drainage and airflow.

As long as you water the turf frequently, what drains underneath is similar to just dirty water like any plant would drain. We recommend throwing some water under the potty every few days to keep things fresh though, as with anything!

We recommend following the same setup tips (outlined here), however you should withhold from putting any holes in the plastic potty liner.

We also strongly recommend against watering the turf beyond a gentle surface level misty spray.

Watering the turf, without the ability to drain the excess water, will result in the turf becoming soggy and potentially drowning the root system. This means the turf will no longer be able to absorb and effectively break down the dog’s urine, potentially resulting in a smell.

The grass will absorb most of the dog’s mess, however we recommend placing a little bit of plastic potty liner on the bottom and a thin layer of soil (potty mix) if you don’t want anything to leak and want it all contained in the box.

The plastic not only keeps it hygienic but also makes it easier and cleaner to change the grass too, whilst the soil makes the grass last much longer.

Yes, we certainly can! We do recommend sticking to sizes in multiples of what the common grass comes in to make things easier, but it’s totally up to you what size you would like. Send through your dimensions for a competitive quote.
