The honest math

The numbers nobody else will show you

Every other real grass potty posts you the grass on a subscription. Here's what that actually costs over a year.

Option To start Per year Real grass? What you live with
The Grassifier $249 $30-$70 Yes Rinse the tray weekly, swap the grass every 2-3 months on average. No smell. No weekly changes.
Grass delivery subscription $0-$229 $1,556-$2,704 Yes Wait in for deliveries, then swap and bin the grass every week or two. Forever.
Fake grass pad $30-$400 No Empty and scrub it every day, and it still stinks
Pee pads $6-$48 $145-$550 No Bin two or three a day, and smell them in between

All prices in AUD. Grassifier: $249 once, then about $7 worth of turf, which typically lasts 2-3 months on average. Subscription figures from RGPP market research, August 2026. Pee pads costed at 2-3 a day at $0.20-$0.50 each, which is what Australian pack prices work out to - about $0.19 a pad in a 200-pack, up to $0.60 in a 10-pack. Puppies go through more.

What's underneath

The bit that keeps the grass alive

Under the turf sits a purpose-built drainage and airflow system. Water leaves, air gets in, roots don't rot - which is why a piece typically lasts two to three months rather than a fortnight. It's also why there's no smell.

Made from UV-resistant ABS polymer, so a west-facing balcony in high summer doesn't touch it. Light enough to move one-handed, stable enough that an excited labrador can't shift it.

The question everybody asks

Yes, you buy your own turf. That's the point.

Everyone else posts you grass on a subscription and charges you for the privilege, forever. We'd rather you walked into Bunnings, spent about seven dollars, and kept the difference.

We'll tell you exactly what to grab and where to find it near you. Or grow your own from seed in two to three weeks.

Most people order the Grassifier, then order the grid and the meter two weeks later - and pay shipping twice. Don't do that.

Before you ask

The eight questions everybody has

Where do I buy the turf?

Bunnings, or any nursery. Around $7 worth of turf fills it. Depending on how your store cuts them that is one or two pieces, and occasionally one straight trim to fit. We'll tell you exactly what to grab and where to find it. You can also grow your own from seed in two to three weeks.

How often do I change it?

Most customers get two to three months from each piece of turf. That is an average, not a guarantee - light, drainage, climate, how often your dog uses it and how well you look after it all move that number. Indoors with no direct sun and little upkeep, expect two to four weeks.

Will my balcony smell?

No. Liquid drains straight through into the slide-out tray rather than sitting in the grass, and living grass handles the rest. Rinse the tray weekly and there's nothing to smell.

What size is it, and will my dog fit?

86 x 66 x 13 cm outside, 81 x 61 x 9 cm inside. One universal size that suits everything from a toy breed to a labrador. If your dog is a large greyhound or bigger it'll work, but it won't be roomy.

What comes in the box?

The Grassifier, its slide-out drainage tray, wheels, a 10-pack of porous liners, and a setup guide. Turf and soil are bought locally - that's what keeps you off a subscription.

How fast is shipping?

Quick shipping - 2 to 3 business days to most areas.

What if my dog digs?

Add the puppy dig protection grid. It sits over the grass and stops digging instantly - it's the accessory customers most often wish they'd ordered up front.

What if it doesn't work for us?

Most dogs take to it, and quickly. We have sold 30,000 potties, we average 4.9 from 860 reviews, and we have changed how a lot of people handle in-home dog toileting - you can read what customers say here.

What we cannot speak for is your dog. Training, habits and temperament vary enormously, and those sit with you rather than with us. Some settle in within a day, others take a few weeks, and a small number never quite make the switch.

For hygiene reasons we cannot accept returns on a used potty - we will never re-sell a returned product, and that is deliberate. If anything arrives faulty or fails in quality, we will make it right.

Bonnie beside the original timber grass potty on the balcony it was built for

Our story

It started on a balcony, with a dog called Bonnie

Six years ago we built a grass toilet out of timber, because our dog needed one and nothing decent existed. That little idea turned into 30,000 potties and changed how a lot of people handle in-home dog toileting.

We started in Melbourne and we're on the ground in the US now too. We still answer our own emails, and you still deal directly with us - no middle-person.
